Pamela Mason is a pharmaceutical and nutrition writer and consultant. After qualifying as a pharmacist in 1976, she worked as a community pharmacist, firstly for Boots in the North of England, then in her own pharmacy in North Wales. A move to London in 1983 enabled her to study for an MSc and PhD in nutrition. She then worked at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain as an editorial assistant on the British National Formulary and at the National Pharmacy Association as a writer of training and education materials.
Since 1994, she has been self employed as a writer, consultant and lecturer. She contributes regularly to the Pharmaceutical Journal and other pharmacy publications on nutrition and a variety of areas related to medicines and pharmacy practice, including pharmacy practice overseas. She has extensive experience in writing open learning material for community pharmacists and is a regular speaker and presenter at pharmacy conferences, meetings and workshops both in the UK and overseas.
Her main areas of expertise are:
- Food supplements and functional foods.
- Health claims.
- Providing information (written and oral) to help pharmacists and pharmacy staff give consistent, evidence–based advice on nutrition and food supplements to clients and other professionals.
- Writing materials for open learning and continuing professional development (CPD).
- Writing articles for healthcare professionals.
